Foundation Isaberg

The summit of Isaberg rises 150 metres above the nearest lakes and is more than 300 metres above sea level. Isaberg is dominated by facilities for outdoor activities, of which the ski slopes are the most prominent. The nature reserve also has trails for skiing or walking, picnic spots with hearths, view points, playgrounds and a campsite.

From its start, until the formation of Foundation Isaberg, the principal was the municipality of Södra Mo. Administration was carried out by the municipality’s committee for leisure and recreation. The intention was that the municipality would be freed of this responsibility, transferring it to a foundation that had municipal support.

On 8 May 1969, a meeting took place between representatives from the municipalities of Gislaved and Gnosjö and the outdoor activities organisation, Skid- och friluftsfrämjandet. An interim board was appointed and tasked with developing the statutes of the foundation in collaboration with the legal unit of the Svenska Kommunförbundet (Association of Swedish Municipalities).

The board must have at least eleven members and at most thirteen, of which nine are selected by Gislaved Municipality, one by Gnosjö Municipality and one by Friluftsfrämjandet’s district association in Småland. The foundation was created on 23 January 1970.

The foundation aims to acquire and/or lease property with the aim of establishing and administering outdoor facilities, such as outdoor centres, holiday villages, ski slopes, ski lifts, campsites, bathing areas, etc. and to promote the development of outdoor activities within the area of the foundation.

The board appoints an executive officer who can be internal or external to the board. The managing director is Kjell-Åke Gustavsson. The board has around 13 permanent employees. During the peak summer season the number of employees increases to around 20 people and in the winter to around 50 people.

The municipal finances are not to be affected, instead the foundation’s costs are to be covered by rents and fees. Any profit generated by the foundation is to be reinvested in developing the facilities.
